The burning sensation in the chest is caused by the fact that
gastric acid (sometimes combined with gallbladder stomach secretion) climbs
into the esophagus, irritating its mucosa and giving birth to burns, pains,
ruffles and regurgitation.
All this happens because the circular muscle that
divides the esophagus from the stomach, the so-called inferior esophageal sphincter
or the cardiac sphincter, does not work properly. It should relax only the
moment we swallow, let the food pass, and then gather again. In patients with
these symptoms, the cardiac muscle remains relaxed, leaving the orifice between
the esophagus and the stomach partially open.
When heartburns become chronic,
because gastric acid refills frequently or even permanently, we can talk about
functional dyspepsia or reflux oesophagitis.
Heartburns are widespread, especially when we eat too fast
and do not take enough respite to chew well. Here, prevention is more important
than treatment. Never eat in a hurry. Try to sit at the table or take a snack
just when you feel relaxed and have plenty of time to chew as it should. Eat a
lot of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, and fewer (or at all) fatty foods,
roasters, chocolate, coffee and alcohol that favor those burning sensations.

Top 9 Valuable foods against heartburn
Avoid menus and eating habits that have an aggravating effect
on your symptoms, and choose those foods that can help you quench the
"fire" that burns in your chest.
1. Bananas
These fruits soothe the digestive tract, being used for a
long time as a remedy for various gastrointestinal problems. They contain an
enzyme that acts on the gastric mucosa, causing it to produce a greater amount
of mucus. It forms a protective layer that relieves irritated stomach and thus
relieves burning sensations. The most suitable are still green, not fully grown
bananas, because they contain leucocyanidin, a flavonoid that can effectively
prevent the ulcer, protecting the gastric mucosa from potential lesions caused
by certain irritants or some medications, such as aspirin. At the same time,
recent research at Liverpool University has highlighted that soluble banana
fibers reduce painful inflammation, present in conditions such as Crohn's
disease and haemorrhagic colitis.
2. Ginger
Ginger contains substances (more precisely: gingerol and
shogaol), which have a calming effect on the entire digestive tract. Therefore,
it is of great use in combating digestive disorders of any kind: it relaxes the
esophagus, helps a normal digestion and reduces the risk of burns, because it
stimulates the contractions of the circular heart muscle so that the stomach
acid remains in the stomach and not he's getting up in the esophagus.
The beneficial action of ginger on digestion has been
harnessed by people since ancient times. In Greek antiquity, at the end of
massive meals, eat ginger with bread, to prevent any digestive problems.
Sometimes (it is not known exactly when), someone had the idea of putting it
in the dough prepared for bread - and so the sweet cake appeared. In the 16th
century, ginger was so prestigious in Europe as an incentive for digestion that
it was compulsory on all tables, along with salt and pepper.
If you have heartburn, a ginger tea can instantly relieve
your suffering. Put in a cup of boiled water half a teaspoon of ground or
freshly rooted root. To provide additional protection, drink the infusion 20
minutes before you sit down. It is also effective and good to taste and ginger
is preserved in the jar.
3. Chamomile
Known and traditionally used as a precious digestive aid,
chamomile is one of the first options for digestive problems such as heartburn.
This is due to the fact that it possesses anti-inflammatory, antiseptic,
antispasmodic and soothing properties, bringing them together in a unique
combination. If you suffer from burns, try a chamomile tea, to which you added
a little bit of sweet wood.
4. Peppermint
Opinions are divided regarding peppermint: there are also
phytotherapists who say that mint may even aggravate heartburn. It's hard to
believe, but if you see such an effect, of course it will not be the case to
use it. Until then, we suggest you prepare a calming tea from peppermint leaves
and other plants of the labytes family, which have carminative properties (for
the removal of gas from the intestine), such as the mildew.
5. Pineapple
And pineapple is particularly rich in digestive enzymes and
in proteolytic substances, indispensable for protein assimilation in the body,
which is why it is often used against heartburn and other digestive disorders.
It is good to know that this fruit contains a lot of glutamine, which protects
the gastric mucosa. To prevent burns, we advise you to eat a few cubes of
pineapple sprinkled with honey either at the beginning of the meal, as an
entrée or between different dishes.
6. Dill and fennel
In the Middle Ages, Carol the Great offered to his feasts the
dill, for the guests who had eaten too much to be able to calm their stomach.
Like cinnamon, the dill is a carminative that has been used since ancient times
to relieve heartburn and soothe the digestive tract. Prepare an infusion of a
few teaspoons of dill seed crushed into a cup of hot water.
Fennel has a long tradition as dill, and its seeds are used
the same way.
7. Papaya
This tropical fruit contains papain, an enzyme that calms the
stomach. Natural therapists believe papaya juice is able to improve the
condition of people affected by digestive disorders and heartburn. If they are
right, their recommendation could be extended to other fruits with proteolytic
enzymes such as figs and kiwi. Those who frequently suffer from burns should
eat more often papaya, and at the end of the meal, drink the tea I've been
talking about: prepared from chamomile and sweet wood.
8. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a carminative, it minimizes bloating and makes
digestion take place smoothly. If you sometimes overwhelm burns or gastric
problems caused by hyperacidity, try drinking a cinnamon tea and eating a slice
of toasted bread sprinkled with this spice. In addition, if you eat it daily,
cinnamon will help you lower your blood sugar.
A delicious salad for heartburn
A series of plants, fruits and seeds, some of which are also
mentioned in spiritual texts, are considered effective in relieving burns in
the stomach. We refer, among other things, to almonds, andives, dandelions,
prunes, green lettuce, mustard, olives and nuts. If you often have burns, you
can make a salad of these ingredients, good for stomach soothing, with a
dressing made of vinegar, garlic, olive oil and mustard. Smarter people can
replace the salad with a bitter jar (Jagermaister), half an hour before eating.
But no matter which choice you decide: eat without difficulty, chew well and
end up with a mint tea with ginger.
